I have a 1999 Ram 1500 with a 2.5" leveling kit installed. I want to put 35x12.5xr15's on it. I'm not going to be going off road with it. I just have it to haul light lumber and firewood and like the look of 35s. Will this work without anymore lift?

So in reponse to above lol..

TO fix tire rub without more lift go with Dodge off road's BENT control arms...

TO fix transmission and crappy torque/power problems go with 4.56 gears.

Dodge_dude thanks for being so kind with your comments and giving recommendations of what I'd need to make this work. Will 33s give me the same issues? right now it has LT265/75/r16s on it. Like I said before I'm NOT going to go offroading with it or anything like that, I'll be driving it like a grandpa on pavement, and will put about 3 or 4K miles on it a year at best. I appreciate any help as I'm new to this, I'll admit I don't know what I'm doing, I just want it to look cool.

I'm always here for heaps of advice, the problem comes when you get the same threads over and over again over a period of years when people could just google, so give me a break.

33s will fit better. I have 285-75/16 and it barely rubs the liners and if it is full lock and a hard lock, the control arms.
33s will cost you less performance and gas wise as well. As for driving like a grandpa with 35s, I have a friend that put 35s on his 2g, drove like a grandpa and STILL tore his front end to hell.

I have 33x12.5x15 on my 01. No rub. Steel wheels, 3.75" backspace. 3:55 gears suck. Usually lock out O/D. Runs OK that way. Oil burning, high mile 5.2L sucks.

You could most likely fit 35" tires on it stock ride height but as soon as you ran over a pebble or sneeze anywhere near the steering wheel it would rub.

But in all seriousness, 35" tires on it now would fit but they will rub. I'd imagine somewhere around the 75% or more area and they'd start to rub. My 2001 2500 with a cummins I used to have had the 315's that are basically 35" and I had a 3" suspension lift on it, and in the front the tires were rubbing some piece of the body sticking out in the wheel well, so I just bent it out of the way with a hammer. Plenty of clearance otherwise, it was just that sticking out from the side. Granted a 3/4 ton truck sits higher from factory, but still, you should be able to make them work. For what it's worth though, I'd recommend 33" tires. I think you'd be fine either way because it won't get much use, but would probably be better for your application.
Great looking truck though. Nothing I like more than a 2nd gen ram in red.

My apologies for resurrecting an old thread....but it made me LMAO...

It does get tiring. Try starting in 2001 with every other thread asking that question.

At least he didn't argue with you. :favorites13:

Seriously..stick with 285/75/16s on stock rims. With a bit of offset and 8 inch wide rims 305's might work.
Let me qualify work...that means your tires should never rub, or barely touch anything during a complete suspension cycle....just like the factory designed things. Touching, scraping, noise = failure and you will pay for that someday.

Hook up a temp guage to monitor your transmission fluid temperature. consider other transmission mods to keep things cooler.

Live with the loss of acceleration. Bigger heavier tires require exponentially more torque to move. Not a linear thing.

Go 255/85/16 its a 33x10.5 tire. I have them on a set of Ultra 164's with 4.5" backspacing and i have no rub at all. Tires stick out about 1.5" though. Plus, these won't destroy the little dana 44 i have up front lol.
