I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 Sport. Looking to upgrade my tire size. The truck is stock with 53,*** miles. The truck is currently sitting on the stock 245/75R16's (30.5x9.6). I'm looking to buy a set of 305/70R16's (33x12.30).

The truck is currently on the stock 16in rims and I would prefer to run an after market wheel later on. I am planning to buy a set of 16x8 Mickey Thompson Classic Baja Locks.

Q1: Will the 33x12.3 fit on the stock rims?

Q2: Will I need/How much lift do I need to fit the 305's without rubbing the fender?

Q3: Will I need to upgrade my gears from the stock 3.55's to to something like a 4.10's to prevent wear on the drive train and prevent the mpg from further decreasing.

Q4: What backspacing/offset will I need for the rims?

Q5: Any other things to consider?

A1 the tires should fit but probably not recommended.
A2 you could probably fit the 305s with just a little trim on fenders and bumper
A3 I would recommend 4:10 gears to anyone.
A4 I would do some measurements with an extra tire to see what you need have a friend help.
A5 Which v8 do you have. The extra weight of the tires will slow you down a bit too without gears.

I upped mine to 265/70 from the stock 235/75. I'm feeling the drag at highway speeds. I'm at the breaking point where the stock gearing is just not enough for traveling on the highway on anything but flat land. I live near Lansing Michigan, we really only have hills around here, and some of the larger ones push it. Unless I want it flooring itself and skipping gear, I have to kill cruise on some of the larger hills and let it slow from 60 to about 55.

being a sport are you sure you dont have 3.73 or somethin?
just throw in a front spring spacer, your 33's with stock rims and be done with it quick easy simple and you will fill in your fender wells which is your goal as it seems since your tires look super small now.

I don't recommend 305s on stock 7" wheels. Think about it, you'll have over 2.5" sticking out over each edge. No Bueno. 285s is pushing it. 4.10s would be perfect for 33s. Slight overgear for more tq without sacrificing highway drivability.

3.73 was never an option for 2nd gens in any configuration

I'm looking for a tire size that I will be able to run without a lift a regearing. I guess the next size down is to run a 285/75 or a 265/75. What is the biggest tire I can run without regearing or ruining my drivetrain? I hardly ever get on the highway. I drive about 25 miles per day, mostly at 55mph and a little at 35. I don't plan on doing serious offroading, just looking for something to fill up space under the fender.

I just put on 33x12.5x10s yesterday on a 2 inch level. The wheels have a -44mm offset, and I have very slight rubbing on the fender liner at full tilt, but not enough to worry about, and I will probably take care of it over the weekend. Other than that there are no issues, and so far I have barely noticed a change in acceleration and I haven't changed the gearing.

I have 285/75r16 on my stock rims. I could probably do 1/4 or 1/2 hub spacers. It rubs on the links just at full lock. Im also lifted 4"
