Hi I'm new to the forums here and was wondering if it's possible to lift a 1996 Ram 1500 Sport or can you only put a suspension kit on it? :naughty:

Welcome to RF

Yes you can lift a 96 1500 -3500 Ram using a body lift or a suspension lift kit.

How high do you want to go? Usually what dictates price is how complete the kit is and what lift method they use. If you tell us how high then we can tell you what you need which would narrow down your options.

I just want to know if a suspension kit would be better and actually noticeable if I bought it maybe a 2" level or suspension? As you can see I'm very bad with these kinds of things

Well you need to figure out what you want first. Believe 2" will leave 1/2" higher in back on 1500s, so you'll want a 2.5" if you want to level. Just Google your truck with how much lift you want, and you're bound to find pictures. So when you figure out for sure what you want to do, we'll be happy to help.

In my personal opinion body lifts are cheap and look it. Suspension lift is the way to go. Again personal opinion. If you only want 2-3" you can do coil spacers or lift coils for the front and rear you can do blocks or add-a-leaf. Again going with my opinion I'd use lift coils and add-a-leaf. If you don't off-road much or not at all blocks are just fine. I don't like coil spacers just because my coils are old and I'm sure they sag slightly. If you go above 3" you'll also want a longer track bar or drop bracket, longer control arms, and I can't remember exactly but prob want drop pitman arm as well.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong I can't remember 100%.

Final

Does anyone happen to know the exact height I would be able to go until needing bigger tires and wheels?

No your right on. 2.5 inch is a good amount of lift it you dont want to mess with anything else the pepper mentioned. I have a rough country 2.5 inch leveling lift kit. However, I would almost go with a different brand. Its a good kit but the shocks that it came with could be better.

You can piece a lift together fairly easily. Summit has just about everything you would need for a small and complete suspension lift. Coils/spacers, add-a-leafs, track bars, control arms, and shocks (get bilstein 5100s, your wallet will hate you but your butt will love you)
