I bought this 1998 dodge ram 1500 with a 6 inch lift kit. I know nothing about lift kits so this could be a very obvious answer. My shocks are getting old and i want to replace them, does the lift kit effect length of shock? and if it does what type of shocks would I need to get?

Absolutely effects the length of the shock. Make sure you buy shocks that say they are compatible with 6 inches of lift.
