My ram is completely stock, I parked next to my friend who also has a full stock 98 2nd gen and noticed my truck is short. We measured it up and its 2" shorter than stock, what could cause the suspension to sag like this?

Is the other 2nd get an off road edition? If so, then they sit higher than the non-OR trucks.

Aside from that sagging happens. Coil springs is the only thing that can actually cause sagging, though many will argue that replacing shocks will lift the truck back up, which is rare, but could happen if you use a super stiff monotube like KYB or Bilstein.

His is a laramie slt just like mine, same options different paint code. My shocks are shot but that shouldnt really effect ride height that much according to my frames and suspension professor. sometimes i think hes crazy though, hes got a pony tail....

Compare it to your 01. That should tell you if your buddy's truck is taller or if your's is short.

It is shorter than my 01, I just assumed the trucks got taller in the years after

His truck might have had 2500 V8 springs put on at the dealer.
The 90s were weird times.

Or he could just have less miles than you and because of that, less sag.

Jackstands, wrenches, impacts, lots of beer. And replacement coils and leaf springs.

Couldn't tell you. I work in a 4x4 shop and I don't get stock suspension parts. Sorry.

What's your budget for a lift kit and how much lift? Replacement coils will cost about 200 for a set, rear leaf packs (full packs not add a leaf kits) will be about 300 hun each.

The only kit you'll find that has full replacement coils and leaf springs is a 5" kit. Anything below that height is a spacer. Skyjacker I believe at one time offered a 2" spring, although I'm unsure if it's still available. But to get both aftermarket coils and leafs, you're into a large kit. BDS, Fabtech, Skyjacker, and a few others are great kits. IMO stay away from Rough Country, Tuff Country, and Superlift.

Sj still offers a 3" kit, new coils, lower control arms and other small parts. don't remender if it came with a 1 inch ad a leaf or not, but the rear is easy to deal with.

Yes, and an add-a-leaf will help the rear springs, but not replace them. That's all I was saying. To get a lift kit that fully swap the front coils and full leaf pack replacement, as far as I know the smallest is 5" tall.
