I am looking to lift/level my 01, 5.9 4x4... it has the orginal stock coil overs so I was thinking about pickup up some new coils that are designed to lifted about 1.5"-3". But I like the pre-runner look (front higher than rear) so I was just going to throw on some new shocks on the rear and no lift or level in the rear...

Any suggestions, warnings, tips woukd be appreciated!

I don't believe your truck would handle too good with a set up like that..more for the reason of a "make-shift" pre runner look and the fact that the front would sit that much higher than the rear. Thats my .02. I'm sure someone else will chime in for better info.

I don't think any truck handles or performs well with that set up. It wouldn't be the first time someone gave up function for looks but I wouldn't recommend It. Then again 9 out of 10 trucks I saw when I was in LA have the same set up so I could be in the minority.

So you guys would recomend lifting the rear and front the same amount? My front sits slightly lower than my rear when nothing is in the bed and I hate the nose down look

Rear high (factory) or level makes sense. Rear low looks bad (opinion) and will make things wonky of you ever actually tow or load the truck. It may be a fad but it just looks like your shackles are rusted off to me. Haha

Trying to decide between those hard plastic coil spacers or the metal/aluminum spacers... any experience?

Metal all the way. Hell Bent Steel makes a good leveling kit for the front coil spacers. Just put mine in today. I wish I would have done 3 inches instead of 2.5 though, but that's just me being picky

yea man i did the spacers in front in my last 4 rams and threw 35's on stock rims and called it a day. love the look. i always go 2" in the front of every vehicle ive ever lifted. the high in the rear look is terrible imho, grab some bilsteins and get some metal 2.5's for the top of yer springs. rent a set of coil spring compressors to make job easier.(altho i been castrated b4 when recomending this tool.)

If you use coil spring compressors just make sure you know how to use them. Some of the cheaper made ones make the job just as nerve racking as diffusing a bomb.

If you have never seen a coil spring go flying across a shop through a wall then you would not understand the danger when working with them. When I remove a coil spring I run a chain through them and lock them to the frame just in case this might happen. These truck are so easy to work on to change coil springs I see no reason to use coil spring compressors. But hey thats me right.

Now I'm tossing around the idea of just buying new coils that are longer than stock instead of throwing a spacer on my stock coils... but when I was looking at my rear setup it's looks like I have a factory 2" block lift... took it to a buddy that's a big 2nd gen guy and he said it is how all 4x4 2nd Gens come.. but would it be that I have the offroad package ram that came a tad bit higher than most gen 2 from the factory? My truck is the Larmie 2001 4x4 5.9L

Go here Dodge - Contact Us
on the left side click "Equipment Listing", enter VIN and you'll get the build sheet for your truck to find out if you have the offroad package or not
