So I called the local tire place that sells a lot of used tires and they don't have any 285/75's and don't stock them. What would happen if I used a 265/75 as a spare instead? I know you don't want to mix sizes on these trucks, but it would be a spare......

Input?

I'm being told by others that if it's only a couple miles, it's fine, but if I were stuck out on the highway, I'd be SOL as far as getting home without anything breaking.

Thoughts on that?

Ill agree with Mark, a 285 would have been nice but I wouldnt worry if you have to use a 265 as a spare. Nothing will break going down the high way or on a short trip. Not something you want to drive on regularly though.

edit: I actually used a 265 as a spare for a few days when I popped an older set a tires , nothin ever came of it.

Well, Johnny, since you're known for your bad luck, I'll take some faith in your experience on the matter for sure. lol

You both make me feel better. I'm going to go through with it. :)

That'll allow me to put it back under my truck.

So what's going to break?

Ive heard people preach it will blow a t-case or diff up goin 5 minutes down the road in 2wd. Just preaching that. I dont see how it would affect anything on the front at all, though def wouldnt want diff sizes on rear or in 4x4.

Actually, my old dakota when I bought it had a 31x10.50 on one of the rear tires and 32x11.5 on the other side. Guy said he drove like that for awhile, and I drove that truck for 2 years after (i put the the right size tires on) and never had a rear end problem. Trans wouldnt go into OD but that was an electrical problem.

Food for thought.

This is why I was skeptical. lol

Went out and bought a P265/75-16 Firestone Wilderness AT and had it mounted and balanced. Cost me $54.71 tax included.

It should be fine on the front. Don't put it on the rear. If you get a flat on the rear take a tire off the front and put it on the rear, put the spare on the front. It may be fine for short distances but why chance it. With the front axle disconnecting on the pass side, there's no chance of damaging anything.

Front diff is open even in 4wd this will not hurt it, I think the allowance between front and back tire size is 3-5% before things start to be affected. If it is done on a slippery surface nothing will happen even in 4wd. If you have a DL or a Spool thats a different story and should never be done on pavement. I have had to us a little 265 with the 315's for short trips no choice in the matter and nothing broke.

Good to hear ya got it all taken care, get er back under the truck yet? I agree with Mark, I highly doubt it would break anything. And as Mega-hemi said if your that worried about just swap front and rear if necessary.

Man youve sure been busy with the rig of late eh?

Yeah....I'mma hope to God I don't get one on the rear. lol I'll be getting another bottle jack to supplement the stocker, so with any luck I won't have issues jacking it up.

And yes I have. lol That's what happens when I have money: **** gets done.

Got it back under the truck in no time, just like I should.

Now for the next decision: supplement or keep it alone?
