This is drivers side, right in front of the steering gearbox. I'd have to remove the bumper to feed the bolts through and drill solid holes, but thats alright. The hook would be rotated 180 degrees, i just held it like that for visual sake. I will cut a piece out of the fairing of the bumper to mount it.

Doable, or too weak?

Not sure about the placement if it would be strong enough, but here's where I mounted mine in case you are open to different placement options.

How would that even be useful jammed up under & behind the bumper? The idea of a tow hook is to have it stick out where you can hook to it and not bend ****, this defeats that purpose.

Take the air dam off.
Beats not having anything there and having to wrap it around the frame itself in my opinion.

There are quite a few good spots for a t-hook or cluster that are structural and don't require body panel disassembly. Running wrecker you learn how and where to pull things that won't hurt them, and tow hooks aren't half as handy as a cluster if you know where to hook.

Im curious how this would hold. Looks like a good spot, however, im not looking to buy a new x member any time soon.
