I currently have 265-75-16s on my 97 1500 4x4 and I am debating switching up to a 285/16. The truck has a two inch lift. Would I notice a difference in tire size? Also I am debating MT vs AT. I drive the truck 5 miles daily and on the weekends I like to go fishing and hunting. A few of the places I hunt can get real nasty but at the same time on occasion I do drive the truck on a 30 mile trip and we get about 2 snows a year with ice. Really could use some direction.

285 you will see a drop in performance. Mudders don't like ice, some don't like snow. If you go off road and it does get as nasty as you say I'd run a 265 mud tire or a very aggressive AT.

If you want the best of both worlds, Goodyears duratrac and whatever kumhos mud route is called ate both really in the wet and snow while at the same time being aggressive for mud and the nasty. Plus they're docile enough to not kill you on the highway.

Personally I'd go for one of these 2 in a 265 so ad you don't lose performance but still have bigger than a 31" tire. We used to do a lot in our old honey hole before it flooded and my truck had stock 245 bfgs and it did remarkably well even in some nasty crap.

I will have to check those out. Pretty much any tire I get the casing will dry rot before the tread wears out. Anyone tried recaps from tire recappers?

Recaps for the rear only, never for steering tires (my op). On another forum they where liked by a few, sorry don't remember the companys name.

Those are the tires my dad ran for years and then passed on to me when I got the truck. They act like a dedicated mud tire in the nasty but are happy on pavement as well. However if you live in an area that gets a decent amount of snow and nice I'd start away from those and GeneralTires grabber with similar tread. They don't have much in the way of siping and don't clean out snow very well and will be more prone to hydroplaning than something with a little more of a lateral groove like the Goodyear wrangler silent armours I'm running currently.

It depends where you live and how bad the winter gets IMO.

Treadwright.

I run Treadwright on all four wheels, no problems so far. I have the Warden (BFG AT tread) and it does fine in snow and on dirt, but mud leaves a little to be desired. I think next time around I'll go with the M/T tread with their KedgeGrip", everyone I've talked to who uses it loves it. If you do go with these, make sure you tell the shop that mounts them to use the static setting (you WILL get a funny look at the very least, if not downright refusal to do the work), they wont balance otherwise.

You will see a drop in performance and MPG with 285/75s. It wont be drastic (wasnt for me anyway), but regearing to 3.95 will bring you back to stock feel/mpg(?). 4.10 will put a **** eating grin on your face.

My m/t's will loose traction in just rain so keep that in mind. I know they are nowhere near the best but still decent. Sounds like to me you want all terrains. Im thining about switching to a/t's myself.

I have the new ko2s from bfg. Pretty satisfied with them so far. Supposedly they're the next gen of the bfg all terrains. We'll see how well they do.

I killed them off fast as well, got the Goodyear mtr with K wore them out much too fast and got the Attitudes almost free for replacement right from Goodyear as they felt bad about how fast they died. So I was not one to look a gift horse in the face and turn them down. As I need new tires this summer Copper only goes upto a 37" for the 16" rim and that is going to be too small a tire from me. I am not buying new rims again this year or next lol.

Edit to add a pix of my old Coppers.
