So i washed my truck first time since i got it today, took the oppurtunity to get some good pictures of the damage i have and was looking to see what you guys think as far as pricing. I would like to do sheet metal but my friend pitched the idea of fiberglass which he said we could do for about 100-150 not including paint+primer, sand paper etc. just patching the holes. So what do you guys think for sheet metal pricing plus all the painting supplies(not counting painting tools) Probably gonna get a different tail gate and paint that as well as both bumpers.

Unless you're a really good body man that kind of corrosion isn't getting stopped anytime soon. Fiberglass will fill the holes and you can shoot over it, but expect that madness to be back within a year or so. The hard part will be all of the bondo on pronounced body lines, ie the wheel arches and doors. I bet you would have a grand in fenders and patch panels and that's before you get them installed and painted. You could easily sink $3000-$4000 into fixing that properly.

Yeah, that one's bad man. I was in the same position as you on my 2nd gen and o was just about to fix it and by the time I priced out all the panels, bumpers, rockers, fenders, hood etc I was looking around 1300 just in parts. I figured it was a $2500 truck that would be worth $4000 once I put $2000 in it. So I said eff it and drove the wheels off of it for a few years before I dumped it. I'm not sure how attached you are to that thing but it may be at the point of no return.

Also, **** salt, and brine. **** em both. This Ohio guy feels your pain. Haha

Drive it until the wheels fall off. No sense it putting that much money into a 17 year old truck unless your gonna keep it for a while.

I'd replace the bed, doors, fenders, bumpers, and weld in new rockers and cab corners......way cheaper and easier

At that point i might as well just get a different truck and avoid doing cab corners and rocker panels, problem is finding one of these trucks. They are everywhere around here probably as much as the fords of the same time period. But no body is selling them at least not that i can find. Also what are the chances of finding a completely straight truck like mine the only(non rust) damage is to that bumper and thats just a few bolts from a new one. IDK i've got some thinking to do.

Ya your into some pretty expensive work to fix that up! I should know because my truck is still currently in the middle of having a lot of the same stuff done.

So far this is my list of new parts. Both fenders, both rockers, both cab corners, both bedsides have been replaced and the bottoms of the doors also had some patch pieces welded in. ***** not cheap man I'll be lucky to get out of the body shop under $10k but mine is basically a toy/show truck now that I've owned for 8 years and do not ever plan on selling it. That's the only reason I'm willing to spend this kind of cash on it.

Salt is the worst thing ever!! They load our roads here with it to and it sucks!

Yeah for sure. If your gonna do it then do it right and keep it for awhile. But dont start doing body work then decide you want to get rid of it lol

Mine's even worse than this. I bought it as a winter truck and I'll be using it as a winter truck - in Ohio.

Salt is gonna continue to eat at it. The only thing I particularly care about not rusting is the frame which will be undercoated every winter to maintain its integrity (hopefully).

The rust above the wheel wells bothers me as well but I'm probably just gonna remove what rust I can, hit the rest with a rust converter as best I can, toss fender flares on it, and call it a day. Maybe, MAYBE, one weekend here in the summer I'll try my hand at some bondo/sand/rattlecan paint/clearcoat along the bottom of the doors. The rockers are gone and I know it.

Mechanically my truck is sound, but the body is to be expected when it's been in OH and MI all it's life. I might just leave the lower rocker rust and turn it into a off roading rig if I get bored enough.

Drive her till the wheels fall off and get the money out of her would be my thoughts.

Alright, ill tell ya how i took care of my rust. Cheap, easy, arguably stupid.

Knock out all rust
Fill holes to the max with Gary's great stuff
Let it expand, harden and dry (don't work with it while its wet it'll be on your hands for weeks)
Trim the excess and sand it back a bit
Bondo the sh*t out of it
Tape and prime
Check door jamb for color code and get matched spray paint from automotivetouchup.com
Paint
Clearcoat with something

End. It looks ****** but it works.

I patched my rockers on my old Dakota like this. Didn't look great but I was the only one that ever saw it.
