Well let my room mate borrow my truck to go to the grocery store and it comes back looking like this. U joint up there sheared off my question is did this happen because the u joint broke? Or did something else break causing the u joint to break? I've only owned fords in the past so i have no clue about anything suspension related. I'm just glad this didn't happen on the highway, i dont know if my room mate hit a curb or something and ill never know cause hell never tell me the truth if he did. The fact that this thing was in a collision on that side could just be a coincedence i suppose but i noticed walking out of the gas station that that tire had more camber but i chalked it down to the collision causing the allignment to go out of adjustment.

New unit/hub bearing (all one piece), new cross-joint and possible axle shafts. This was no ones fault just lack of maintenance and a worn out part that should have been seen long ago.

From the stubborn guy.......................;)

Well let my room mate borrow my truck

This is why only I drive my truck lol. If I have improperly maintained something I'd rather it be me that gets in the accident. That and I don't trust others driving without totaling it.

Good luck tommorow. I think I would be putting that truck up on jackstands start at the front and work your way to the back check everything, seems like she is ******* on you lots.

That is if the weather permits it.

I think it will it's been damn warm here 40 or so almost time to bring out the shorts and shirts but everything is melting and everything muddy but I've got some coveralls, yeah I was meaning to pull off all the tires when it dried out and got a bit warmer Than it is now and inspect everything but I guess this just brought it on sooner. I assume the axle shaft will still be good as long as it didn't twist or deform the u joint end?

Big thing to check will be the ears where the cross-joint cap fit, if they are messed up they are toast and the axle shafts will need to be replaced. Be ready for a fight getting that unit bearing out they can be a pita, so can the axle nut. You have a 1 & 11/16ths socket and a 9/16ths 12 point? if not you need these to do this work.

Check the 2001 fsm for how to do this job.

Finally got paid and can start on this, going to get parts today and start work tomorrow cause its snowing.
heres my grocery list thus far.
1 11/16 12 point socket
Huge breaker bar with 9 ft cheater pipe
hub assembly
ujoint
9/16 12 point box wrench ( cant get a socket on any of the 9/16s bolts probably shouldve turned the wheel to the right.
it will be a long time before i would be able to get that axle shaft in, what exactly am i looking for on it IDK what a cross joint cap is.
Edit: starting to think a cross joint is the canadian way of saying u joint :D like how the freezer/fridge is the ice box and the toilet is the biffy, maybe thats just my canadian relatives though. Oh and popsicles are freezies.
