Compass calibration

My overhead compass on my 2000 ram sport 1500 seems to be very slow at changing directions. My truck didn't come with a manual. Does anybody know if calibrating it would help? Or how to do so?

I believe you just hold both buttons for a while, then it will say CAL and drive around in circles for a while til the direction shows again.
