Ok for you extended cab guys, Im replacing the headliner this week, got the kit from WLS headliners out of georgia. My question is, the retaining buttons in the back, do they pop out, screw out, or break? Im trying to figure out how the heck to remove them and I dont want to break them if I dont have too.

^^^Good question. I have yet to remove my liner. Been on my list to do but have yet to tackle it. I would think that it is a pop plastic piece. But I don't know. From reading online those two may not do anything. There are clips above it that hold it in like a door panel. Also the third brake light wire harness is attached to the headliner.

Just checked mine, they pop out. Although, if done wrong they'll break. A clip removal tool would be the easiest way to remove them without them breaking.

Well gents, Headliner was pulled and stripped today, that is one pain in the **** job stripping the foam off. One of the builders at my shop had a belt sander, made the job a lot quicker. Was suprised to find the backer board was fiberglass instead of paperboard or laminate wood. Took me about 15 minutes to remove the headliner from the truck, and about an hour to strip it down bare, and rinse it. Ill have some pics tomorrow when I start applying the material. Ordered all the material from a place called WLS headliners, seems to be good stuff but we will see.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the compliments. I was actually worried I was going to frack it up, so I probably went overboard with the adhesive and went overboard sanding the board back smooth. I learned a few things today, the job came out good, so today was a good day.:)

Nice! Looks good I did this project also. And I was agree. The foam sucks. I had to remove all of mine with a wire brush though. Sucked.

TXBASS-- I found thumb tacks work really well on the back when doing wrapping it around the front and back. From the factory its cut on the front of the headliner by the windshield, which is why I think the front peels first. I wrapped my front over the top and glued it there as well. To hold it in place while the 3m Supertach 76 spray adhesive was setting, I used thumbtacks about every six inches to ensure it maintained a proper bond. Let it sit for about thirty minutes, removed the tacks, then re-installed. I wish I had gotten some pictures during the job, I would have made a DIY howoto walkthrough, but I was doing it by myself. Oh well, lessons learned right?

Thanks for the thumb tack tip. And mine just started peeling on the front edge on both sides. I used some spray adhesive on it when I first got the truck and it fixed it for a while but I drive with the windows down 95% of the time so it didn't last lol.

Was the place you got the material from local or did you order it online?

I ordered this kit from WLS Headliners out of Georgia. Took them about three days to ship it to me

Extended cab truck headliner kit.

Good quality. The only option I selected was to get the 3m 76 adhesive vice the pro-stick they supply.
