I just took out my carpet in preparation to spray in bedliner material for the floor pan.

My question is, once i remove all the rust and fill in holes here and there, what techniques can i do to essentially fill in the floor pan smooth over the overlapping sheetmetal - on a budget? Something like bondo costs too much to cover that much area.

Any ideas? I don't know if this is a common modification or what...

Post up some pix so we can see what you have going on. You don't cover the whole repair area, you just fill and feather the edges around the patch. Then a coat of epoxy primer.

Here's what I'm working with. Just smoothing over the uneven parts and filling in the rust with rust prevention stuff
