Howdy! A few months ago I bought my first dodge! (I'm more a a Super Duty guy but I do like my Ram 2500!). When I first got it, the speedo was reading half of what I was going. A couple of weeks ago, it seems to have slipped back even more. There is no ABS light on. Any ideas? The gears in the rear end all still look in good condition but I haven't had the chance to check the sensor there yet. The truck is a 4x4 and has 240,000 miles all original if that is a factor. Thanks for yalls help!

First thing is to check the speed sensors, should have one on the transmission/transfer case output, or possibly one on the rear differential though I think they only started appearing there 98+

What year is the truck? Need to know as to advise of speedo operation. 94-97 and 98-02 are very different.

95+ use a VSS on the output of the transmission or transfer case, in this case its the transfer case. The instrument cluster uses a magnetic coil to drive the spedo, but the first thing i'd check would be that speed sensor, its the most common cause when only spedo issues arise. Even the 94 like in his description (not sure if thats the truck in question) uses a VSS and magnetic coil.

Yep missed the 94 in his info. VSS would be first suspect and then wiring next.
