Hey everyone I am new to this site and a new ram owner as well. I Just purchased a 98 ram 1500 5.9. The truck will run fine and then out of no where it will stall. Radio keeps playing, lights will stay on, wont buck or jerk, just dies. I will coast to the side of the road and wait a few minutes and then start her back up and be on my way...any body with and experience like this or know what it could be?

Is it throwing any codes while it's doing this?

What is your volt meter reading in the dash?

Does it take a while to start back up after it dies?

No codes that im aware of...no reader. But there is no check engine light and no codes to pull out on the odometer. The gage reads just over 14...and oil presure is just over 40. When it stalls the only gage the falls is my tack. spdo will drop but gradually due to the truck slowing down.
As far as restarting its funny. Sometimes it restarts right away. Once I had to wait about 5 min. But when it starts it starts fine like nothing ever happened.

Welcome to the forum. :) Can't help much as I haven't experienced issues like that, but wanted to welcome you to the forum.

Could be a fuel delivery problem or ignition.

Could it be the fuel pump getting hot then shutting off?

Does your truck have a coil pack or distributor?

I had this happen to an s10 probably totally different but it was the fuel control module going out on that. Definately sounds like fuel delivery to me.

I would hook up a OBDII code reader and check again... Any failed sensors should throw a code but not always pop the check engine light...

agreed. take it to advanced auto. they will read it for free. no sense in just throwing money at it.

Sounds like it to me. Those are both crank sensor codes. It's where I'd start anyways lol

It's on the top of the bellhousing on the passenger side if I'm not mistaken you really can see it a little but you really got to look hard.

And im just looking for a few bolts on a small plate with a wire that runs into the block? I think I saw it, just waiting for the truck to cool of a little then I will feel around up there and see if thats what I want. I have also read though that it is behind the starter which is on the driver side of the truck?

After feeling around for about 30 mins...The only way I can get my hand in that area is from the top...behind the pasenger side header and down (if you can follow that) I found 2 wires that seam to go into a rubber gromet, I can find 2 bolts in that area also. Is this it? 2 wires that disapear into a rubber gromet? with 2 bolts roughly on either side of it?
