Hello, i am new to the whole forum thing so forgive me if i am not posting in the correct spot. I have an issue with my transfer case that has been boggling my mind, and any help would be greatly apperciated. So, i recently had my trans rebulit and gears swapped from 3.55 to 4.56, and i picked up the truck and my manual 4wd lever is not right. So the stock lever( see picture/attachment) reads, 4wd lo, N, 2wd, and then 4wd hi (going from dash back too the seat), the problem is that now the position that is suppose to be 4wd hi is now 2wd and vice versa, but 4wd lo and N are the same as before. When i give it some gas after a stop sign it pops out of 2wd. The 4wd light on the dash comes on in 4wd hi but only sometimes in 4wd lo but engages both. Could he have hooked the linkage up wrong or could it be some kind of adjustment? Any ideas/help? Please see picture. Thanks.

Should be just a case of adjusting the linkage rod.

Well either really i just dont know what is wrong i have never had this problem before. Is there another reason that that this could happen other than linkage? Maybe TCCM or some kind of tcase switch? Maybe the vaccum lines on the dissconnect??? I just have no idea.

When the tranny was rebuilt the xcase was removed, some how the linkage did not get put back right. Follow the kiss rule, start with the shift linkage adjustment and go from there, don't start over thinking this yet. If you need a photo let me know and I will post one up for you.

So, merc225hp, have a question. Just got done looking at the truck and linkage is good and come to find out all gears are where they sould be engage and dis engages fine but 4wd dash light stays on in 2wd and is actually in 2wd cause front drive shaft spins freely any thoughts on why 4wd dash light is ataying on in 2wd? I also noticed a pretty bad vibration in the gas pedal around 45-60 mph? It stops a little when i let off the gas but then starts up again when i get back on it? Any ideas?

Yes sir, it's the sender switch in the CAD that is not working for you. This is why you have the light on, as you can spin the front DS its not a CAD problem just the switch. You could pull the CAD and check it all out when you change the switch.

Mopar part number for the SWITCH, Hub Lock Indicator is 04289880 you can use this number to cross reference on Rockauto if you need to.

As for the vib, start with a comp test see what you get for numbers. Start with jug #8. Could be a plenum gasket issue, maybe just a good tune up.

Sorry if I am in the incorrect place. I have a nice 99 ram 1500 with 140k. It uses a excessive amount of oil. The valve seals are worn out, how many man hours are involved in changing them and how much is it going to cost me. Thank you all

You are in the wrong place. Post a new thread, but in answer to your question its far more likely you have a failed plenum gasket I would check that first. Dd94 has a good thread on that.

You can add it any way you like but to properly check the level yes neutral at warm idle on level ground
