318 to 360 engine swap

Just curious about how swapping a 360 into a 2000 dodge ram 1500 would be it has a 318 in it now.

I'm interested in the same thing as far as i have read its a completely bolt in plug in swap. The cpu needs to be reprogrammed from what i have read or a new one from a 360 as long the donor truck didn't have the stock alarm? You also need the flex plate from the 360. I dont have any experience with this swap this is only what i have read on it.

Not many have attempted this swap. I have only read of a few successful ones done and they had computer problems after. I would say as long as you have a whole wiring harness and computer with the motor and trans.

I have a 1997 Ram 1500 with a crate 360 in it. It came with a 318 originally. I had a shop put the new engine in (2006) and they used all stock electronics/ECU. It is a 360 with a ported/polished intake and a mild cam. The only problem I had was the oil pressure light flickering at idle sometimes to due to the low loping idle. It would probably be beneficial to get an aftermarket ECU tuner after doing the swap, but overall everything switched over without problem.

this about nails all the big ones on the head. Not much else that I know of that needs to be taken care of. If you can grab the ecu and the harness that is prob the biggest issue. hell you might not even need it, sean from hemifever tuning might be able to fix the computer up with a tune, I would ask him first though and verify

I know this thread is a little old,but it does come up when you google 318 to 360 swap so I thought I would give a little update since I'm doing this now.
A little background on the trucks used...96 1500 w/318 straight drive and a 98 1500 w/360 auto.
First the balance problem...flywheel,even though they are identical I did have to get one for a 98 manual trans(the clutch is the same).there is a weight differance,the 96 will make wurring noise when idling.
second,the wire harness...all the componets are the same,just different plugs,had to use the 96 map,TPS,IAC and air charge temp sender.the 96 used the same parts between the 318 and 360(so essenually I made mine a 96 360)
dodge did away with the temp sender on the 98 360.
third,the computer...well the one for 360 was completly useless,stayed with the 96 one ,will have to have it reprogrammed or find one for a 96 360...the year model differance will be a big deal when you go to make this swap if it has a digital odometer and yours dont....dont even bother.
Everything works perfectly exept the temp gage and I'm still looking at options for that.I could change the maifold or add an aftermarket one,or a CPU reprogram could fix it if reprogramed to 98 standards,I'll let you know.

Hey how did it go? Thinking of the same swap. But from a 96 360 to a 2000. What about the odometer thing,did that work ir should i get tge dash too?
