Cad axles?

If it is then the vacuum unit is not locking the hubs...

Or the CAD sensor is out. That does happen.

Also how did you test to check that 4wd is working?

Here you go... I know its for a Cummins engine but the rest is the same.

If you have a 2nd gen Dodge, and if it is original you have a CAD system.

If your 4wd is engaging but your light isn't coming on it could either be a wiring issue or your switch on the axle assembly is bad.

Here's a couple pics of the CAD system...sometimes the indicator switch gets dirty and won't function. Your actuator also may not be engaging fully and tripping the switch if it's plugged with mud or dust. Or the wiring could have failed.

BTW all this is found on the passenger side of your axle right by the axle vent hose.

Because you'll have a CAD (Center Axle Disconnect) Unit on the passenger side of the axle with vacuum line like this one...

As you can see if the unit doesn't move because of vacuum problems then the 4WD switch won't come on... It requires the fork to slide over to touch the switch.
