My 2000 Ram 5.2 starts and runs fine at first. After it warms up it stalls/dies when taking off from stop signs. It will start after waiting a few minutes and do it again at the next stop sign. No matter how long it runs the water temp gauge never goes above 130. There is no check engine light/no codes. I'm looking for ideas/suggestions.

Thanks ahead of time.

When the truck dies, does the truck sputter like its running out of fuel, or does it just shut off like turning the key off?

Does it happen when you hit the gas?

Sounds like it's flooding out almost. You said that the temp never get's above 130*? If you temperature sensor is bad, it may be flooding out the engine when warm since the computer doesn't know to trim back the fuel...

Or your fuel pump could be going out. Have you checked your fuel pressure at the fuel rail?

For what it's worth we can hear the fuel pump. Pressure is good at rail. Haddn't thought about the water temp causing the problem.

Thanks.:happy107:

If you change the temp sensor may want to think about the thermostat first. If it stuck open I don't think it would warm up. Honestly that didn't cross my mind originally

Not something that would come to mind first.

Thanks for the ideas.

Like crazy kid said... check the thermostat first. You can test for proper operation by seeing if it opens up in hot water. It should be closed at room temperature. If you pull it from the truck and it's open, that could be your low temp issue right there.

Keep us posted. Many people ask about problems but never post their solutions.
