I have a 98 1500 5.9 4x4. Can I swap the old 4 speed automatic out with a 6 speed automatic? If so, what tranny would I use?

I'm going to sub to this thread. My buddy wants the nv5600 for his 3rd Gen Cummins but I want to put one on a v10 lol. The nv4500 is all you really need for your truck

I've been reading and maybe a conversion is the way to go. I'll have to touch up on my manual driving lol What is the newest model truck i could take one from? My truck had 240k miles when the engine blew.

Nv4500 would be your best shot. Especially if you get everything from a junk yard

There is no 6 speed auto you can swap into that and control it.

As far as manual swaps:
Nv5600 6spd-impossible, bell housing bolt pattern does not match
Nv4500 5spd- need the v8 bellhousing, input shaft, and the bearing for said shaft
T56?- believe I've heard of Dakota guys doing a 6 speed manual swap with i think a T56 or some ****? Requires tuning
