Although I am new to this site, I have been around Dodge trucks since 94. Here is my situation. My 94 has a 408 engine with a fresh 46RH transmission and transfer case. I ordered it as a light duty 1/2 ton, so the axles are 8-bolt Dana 44/Dana 60 with 4.10 gear ratio. I bought a rust free, 97 1/2 ton ecsb 5.2L/auto truck out of Phoenix, AZ with an overheated engine. My plan was to swap the 408 engine, 46RH tranny, transfer case and axles to the 97. I know the engine will bolt in, but realized the 97 came with a 46RE tranny. Both transfer cases appear to be the same, since they have the speedo sensor in the rear of the case. The axles will bolt in, but may need driveshafts shortened/lengthened. The 94 is OBD 1 and the 97 is OBD II. I drove the 97 about 4 miles to my shop with rear brakes that were set up too tight, but tranny seemed to shift ok. Should I rebuild the 46RE to be compatible with the 97 computer, or can I swap engine harness and computer from the 94 and plug it into the 97 connectors at the driver's side firewall ? I have a Perfect Power SMT8 piggyback tuner on the 94 that would allow tuning, so using the 5.2L ECM would not be an issue, if I swap it to the 97. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Your motor will bolt up to the 97 46RE. I would pull the harness from the motor and use the 97. Should be nearly a direct swap. Did you have the 94 pcm set up for the 408 or did you build it to be kind of compatible with stock pcm? 97 being OBD2 you can get an SCT programmer and FlyinRyan will be able to do a lot for you. I would just rebuild the 97 trans to handle the power and use it's tcase and everything. Swap the axles.

Dapepper9, I edited my original post. I could swap my Perfect Power SMT8, which is a standalone computer from the 94 to the 97 and tune it on a chassis dyno. Thanks for the quick reply.
