Had a similar issue on my '99 Laramie a few years back. Wouldn't hold a charge at idle, battery would completely die over night. Spent weeks chasing it.

Turned out to be a loose/damaged ground connection on the frame... :Stupid Me:

Yes check all the grounds can't hurt one bit. Ok I know you had the alt checked, fine. It's time to go get a new or rebuilt alt, treat it with care install it run the truck up and see what happens, if no change return it. I am going with the fact you have the Mopar performance pcm in that truck, it puts out more volts (14.5) than the reg pcm does.

Edit; Grrr don't know how I missed it but you have an underdrive pulley on that alt. Put the smaller stock one back on.

Allready tried another alt, performs exactly same. Tried smaller pulley belt loose & could not find size that fit correctlly, Also, local mechanic said that if it came that way it charged properly when they sold it new ? not agreeing or disagreeing with any suggestions, just want to solve problem.
underdrive pulley 3 3/8" dia with stock belt 7pk2475

stock pulley 2 5/8" dia tried next smaller belt 7pk2476 1" shorter to tight:shake:

Ok well all the pulley's need to go back to stock size to solve your belt size issue (alt, crank, maybe waterpump). That is an underdrive pulley kit, it did not come stock on that truck someone installed it before you got it. The performance pcm and all these trucks are very sensitive to volts, it won't like that underdrive pulley kit at all. I have seen the same results with others that have used the underdrive kit.

Let me know if you need parts I will ship to you asap.

Ok on a side note: I also have the Mopar performance pcm same year same motor, I protect mine at all costs, treat it like gold. No jump starting or boosting, no welding with the batt hooked up, No dealer is allowed to plug into my obd1/2 port ever, no software upgrades ever, No tuners. Our pcm's are part OBD1 & OBD2 the only year for this.

Mopar part # is P5249935 Engine Controller (1996 5.9L ATX Ram). They are not cheap and are getting very hard to find. If you want to use a tuner go find a used stock pcm and install it to use with the tuner, put the performance pcm in a safe spot for later on.

Edit to add.

HUB, PULLEY. Water Pump, Water Pump Pulley 53010221 NLA

5301 0222 crank pulley 3.9/5.2/5.9 Engine NLA

Parts pc shows -1 back order for the water pump pulley and the crank pulley shows NLA, hope its wrong.

So far I have found this kit be it a small power/amp kit at least you get all the pulleys needed.

http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/mch-10515/overview/make/dodge/model/ram-1500

You could put the org alt pulley on and the org belt and oversize either of the two idler/tensioner pulleys or maybe just the one.
