As title states my ram is backfiring through the exhaust.
At one point it had a random misfire CEL I replaced the plugs wires and coil.
I used ngk copper plugs and autozone duralast wires.
I have not gotten a CEL light again but it still backfires "POPS" through the exhaust pretty bad.
Now this is only with no load on it, if I rev it up it will go through the RPM range perfect. I thought about the cat getting clogged so I started to drill some holes in it to allow it to breath I now has two 1 1/2" holes but it still pops although it feels like it has just a slight bit more power.
I have cleaned the IACV and throttle body.
What do you guys an girls think it can be?

My truck was purchased 3 weeks ago it did not do this during the test drive.
It happened after the purchase was completed roughly a block away from my house.

Does it do it when it's hot or does it matter?

Update and not good. I pulled the new plugs I had installed and noticed cylinders 2 & 4 plugs look like they haven't even been started. I checked them for spark and they are good. And the injectors on those 2 cylinders are firing.
I am thinking that since they are right next to each other the cylinder head is bad maybe the valve seats have sunken. As it only pops on idle.
Might be selling the truck as I do not have time to keep messing with it.

Hmm did someone say that? Lol

Yea apparently I kept crossing the wires for cylinders 2 and 4.
Not sure how I even missed that. I remember tracing them all the way back to the dizzy.
