I Need to change my oil ASAP. I have my 1998 ram 1500 5.9L all seafoamed up and ready for some fresh lube! I just hit 110,000 miles on my truck and i need to make the move from conventional oil to something better that will prolong engine life and help it run smoother. I have heard much discussion about the Rotella T-5 and Rotella T-6 along with a NAPA GOLD filter working miracles and really making your engine run smoother. I understand that it is a diesel oil but many people swear that it's good to run in the gas engines as well. I am open to suggestions and need to know what the best OIL and FILTER COMBO is for my truck. Thank you all in advance.

Myself, dodgedude94, bbartow and a few others run the Rotellas.

Personally i run an STP XL simply because I've seen the inside

I don't think the brand of oil really matters that much. I bought my 97 when it had 48,000 miles on it and it now has 249,000+ original miles on it now. I have changed the oil without fail every 3000 miles and use Fram filters. Also I only use conventional oil, no need to pay outrageous prices for synthetics.
I think it all has to do with clean oil and a good quality filter.

You do realize that's an oxymoron right?

Way different year, 2013 hemi, I run Castrol edge in it with a wix filter.

I've always run Castrol with no issues. Dads truck went 600,000 miles on Castrol with no issues. That was a sbc 350

I run Walmart conventional 10w30 in my 2001 5.9l gas and will run it in my new 1999 5.9l gas with the fram 10,000 miles filter. It ends up being about $18 with tax and all give or take.

I change every 5,000 miles give or take.

my 2001 has 200221 miles as of 2 minutes ago. the 1999 has 67000 miles as of two days ago.

I used to use STP filters until they started getting Mopar brand filters made by purolator.

As for oil, I don't use anything except for valvoline full synthetic. My valve train looks incredibly clean, no sludge or carbon deposits on anything. I also change the oil every 5K miles. I made a mistake once and went 7K miles before I realized and changed the oil, my baby didn't even care, took a borescope to the valve train while it was draining and the thing was still clean as before.

The guy before me ran some conventional oil through a shop in florida, it was pretty dirty when I got it. Its clean now, and it runs well, except for the transmission.

I use Rotella T5 or Pennzoil Conventional depending on price. Motorcraft FL-1A or WIX 51515 for filter.

I have an 03 Quad cab, 4.7 & use a wix filter & quaker state 5w30, 240 000, change every 4000ish. Sounds as good as the day I bought it.

Was told by an older drag racer that all he and older racers ran in their street cars and daily drivers were Wix filters.

Don't know if it's true or not, but I always use Wix filters for oil and transmission

And Motorcraft 5w-30 synthetic

Always worked for me

That sounds right, there are some guys I used to work with who raced their custom builds, they stood by wix like their own mother.

There hasn't been a single oil filter I have used that has given me problems. I have never had engine problems on any vehicle I have ever owned. Granted I only owned 3 vehicles for longer than 2 years but I used fram oil filter almost every single time I changed the oil on my 2001 with a cummins and I sold it with 327k miles original not rebuilt and had no problems whatsoever with the engine. I started to use the mopar ones I think it was because I stopped buying rotella from o reilleys and started buying somewhere else.

I generally use valvoline oil. It's a force of habit I think because when my dad first taught me things when I was younger, he always used valvoline. It just catches my eyes first and I grab it. Pennzoil is the other main oil I have used extensively. Again, never had any problems with any brand oil or filter I have used to date but I know people have had issues with fram oil filters. It's enough to make me stay Way from them now. I refuse to buy into the synthetic hype and I buy conventional. Sythentic might have some better properties that make it not break down as easily, but if you change your oil every 3000-4000 miles I don't see how it's going to net you more miles out of your engine. My personal opinion, I'm sure others disagree.

Better lube properties and temp characteristics. Doesn't build sludge like conventional and has more detergents in it to help clean the engine
