So I just installed a new rad, 5.2 with auto trans. So I,m wondering should I just start the truck and the resovoir in the rad will fill with oil? Also how much oil will I need to add. Thanks.

I hope you mean oil for the trans and not oil for the cooling system.

Start up the truck and put it through all the gears then check the level. If its way low add a half quart and wait 5 minutes for the dipstick tube to drain or you'll get false readings, keep doing this until its a little below proper fill (remember the level will rise once the fluid warms up). When its close take it for a test drive to warm it up then check it again. After the test drive add between .25 and .5 quarts at a time depending on how close it is to the proper level.
