Hello erryone. Been a while since I been on RF. Not much is new. Dumping money into projects. But anyway.

My 1997 Ram 2500 5.9 V8 just rolled over 225K on the clock yesterday. That motor is old and tired as hell. It burns so much oil its ridiculous, even after the plenum repair. It cant hold oil pressure for sh*t, so im thinking its on its way out and I sure dont want to throw any more parts at it only to have it die in a week.

However, I did find a 2000 Ram 2500 V8 that somebody is parting out. 76K on the motor. I asked how much, and if I can hear it run. Well he has yet to respond. But is it possible to swap a 2000 motor into a 1997?

Thanx.

Very. Use your harness and swap your intake manifold, fuel rail, and injectors all over as a unit

Sweet! This makes me very happy, qs I just did my plenum not 2 months ago before i decided I just wanted to swap motors.

He says he just pulled it out of the truck. I told him let me see it running, and ill take it...

I would reseal the new engine, put in a timing chain and water pump, plugs, wires, cap and rotor all for sure.

Might as well because you'll get no better time

Ive been thinking. Let me let yall in on my plan.

Still unsure if motor runs or has issues. If none or minor, he wants $350. Will buy all new gaskets/seals/etc and pay guy at my CJDR Dealership $100 to blow through it with me and take a look.

Not a bad idea, yes?

I'd say yes do it, but if you cannot hear the thing run, I wouldn't pay more than I can safely throw away.

Whats it take to make one of these motors run out of the truck?

What other years will fit this truck for a motor?

I know this is an older thread, but can I swap from a 2500 to a 1500 same year? Both 4x4 or only one 4x4?

As long as everything is original and the truck was originally equipped with a V8, I'm under the impression that any 5.2/5.9 Magnum engine will directly swap in.

Hell, I'm pretty sure the old LA engines will bolt right up to a 46re transmission, though there are numerous reasons why you better be 110% that you want to go carbureted to make it worth the trouble...
