My 96 ram 2500 with a 12 valve currently has a 7 inch side dump straight pipr exhaust which is a bit too loud for me and any neighbors within a half mile. I want to change it to just a 4 inch straight pipe with maybe a 5 inch tip. Where's the best place to get the material for this and is it better to clamp the pipes together or weld them? Thanks

Easiest would be a turbo-back 4" kit. All over summit, ebay, Amazon, or any diesel performance site. Weld is better than clamp in nearly every case, less leakage. Or you can also order any build it yourself kit of bends and such and build your own

What would be the cheapest way to go? I. Not worried about it looking ugly as long as it works, doesn't leak, and doesn't fall apart. I have custom built and exhaust for my race car out of a few other exhausts I had laying around, I'm just looking for something easy and cheap

Well if you want a full tailpipe, ebay kit like this.

On paper, you could likely find all the piping for less. However, this isn't a lot and you'd be done in at the most a half days work. No measuring cutting or welding, she'll bolt right in. Done. But, then again if you have the tools and know-how you could build a system for not very much depending on where you get the pipe.

Agreed it's gonna be cheap and a lot easier to buy the full exhaust off of eBay and on the up side it's gonna look pretty too
