Been searching for new gears for my 98 dodge 1500 4x4.. I found a Nitro package front and rear with all shims, bearings, and crush sleeves.. Its about half of what I was looking at for Yukons. Was wondering if anyone had anything to say. Good, bad or indifferent just looking on some insight for the long haul thanks

ok thanks guys, and after reading alot of gear changes on here, 4:11's and 4:56's cost the same in the package, I think im just gonna go with 4:56's.. I do alot of highway driving but im thinking Ill still only pull bout 2200-2400 running 70 and thats fine by me, cant get worse than my already 11.5 on the open highway

Haha wanna bet lol.

Picking gear ratios is a interesting thing to do, there were things I liked about using 4.56 and things I did not like. I am in a 4.10 ratio and 315/75r16 tire and to me were I drive/speed limits and for what I do with my truck they are my pick for now. I have also ran 3.92 ratio with the same tire size, the 4.10 ratio is just a bit better than the 3.92 ratio.

yeah stock motor and 3" body.. when you ran 4:56 did you have to buy a different front carrier for the 44? cant find a clear answer on it

For the rear no you don't need a new carrier (the 9.25 carrier has no ratio breakpoint), or bearings if your's are in good shape. You will have to trim the heel of one tooth if you use the factory LSD as the cross-pin will not fit. This in no way hurts or bothers the gear in anyway shape or form. For the front you can get thick cut gears or you get reg gear's and a new carrier.

Yup, 4.56 = stock ratio for 35s compared to 3.55s on 265s.

sorry to hijack thread but has anyone ran a 4.56 with a 33/12.5/15 or a 285/75/16? Im wanting to go taller than i am already (stock height) and but i need to rebuild rearends first.. so id rather get gears while im already there..

Yup, 4.56 = stock ratio for 35s compared to 3.55s on 265s.

It's not, this gets thrown around way too much. Do the math, a 3.95 gear ratio with 35's gets you revving where you would be with stock gears and tires. Thus, 4.10 would be the closest, best option if one wants to maintain close to factory revs on the highway without undergearing with a 3.92 ratio. 4.56 will make you rev higher than stock but may be a good option for those looking for better acceleration and towing capability.
