I have tried and tried to remove the old crank sensor. It just comes off in bits and pieces. Any hints???

Don't hit it with a hammer to get it out :roflsquared:

But really, if its original the plastic is going to be brittle, however it should just come out, you may have a bolt still in the sensor holding it in, or it may have had dirt impacted and holding it in. Soak the area with penetrating oil and let it sit for a few minutes then try again. It should come out as an assembly not in pieces.
