I might be wrong, but that doesn't look factory at all. Holley makes performance aftermarket parts. I've never seen one of their products used in production of any manufacturer.
Yes holley has been making oem carbs for decades. From the offey on the amc motors to the magnum engines at least in my truck. My fifth ave has a holley 6280 feedback and before that the la engines used 2280s which were normal carbs. While they are kniwn for performance parts this indicates to me he certainly does have an la block 5.9 and thats a 727 trans pan for sure.

Here is a pic for 3spd trans identification. Unfortunately im having a difficult time finding a picture of a tbi 5.9 because the cummins from those years share the same displacement. I'll do a bit more research but that certainly looks like a tbi carb to me.21ef7b324d4b2906ebca939ea9536c3b.jpg

Yes im curious to see what trans you have and seeing this makes me think they continued to put la blocks and torqueflites in well after we had mpfi in the states..very strange.

Wouldn't surprise me. US emissions and such required the changes made. Mexico didn't fallow so they probably used their back stock there.

As i stated in a previous post i couldnt find any info regarding la blocks put in mexican trucks past 1993 which makes this even more strange. Thats not to say they didnt throw this engine in a few trucks because they had them laying around and they could still pass mexican emmissions regulations.

As for a swap i would say the a518 out of a very early 90s truck. It has overdrive and no computer unlike the 46re. A lot of guys that want overdrive in their f/m/j bodies and even some a, b and e body cars do this swap because it uses the same linkages as the 727 and 904. Its as direct a swap as possible as far as i know. YOU WILL NEED A SHORTER DRIVESHAFT HOWEVER! i suggest if you can find a truck with a 46rh/a518 to also take the driveshaft. For this you can look in 90-94 or 95 ram 2500s or d250s..w250 if your truck is 4wd.

With some quick research i found an extremely helpful link for you:

Actually after reading this entirely, the linkages are not the same and your lockup will not work properly. However, the article is in depth enough to help you figure out what you will need.

Can you take a picture of the top of the engine please?

The 1992 5.9 gas motors were not Magnums. Only the 5.2s were. If you need engine parts I suggest you ask for the 92 listings. They use TBI like the earlier units.

Any 46RH aka A518 will bolt up. Get a PATC kit to run the lockup and overdrive.

Easy swap.

D250s/w250s or 94/95 ram 2500s with the 5.9 gas, some ramchargers and dakotas and jeeps but your best bet is the pickup trucks.

Hi guys, this is what my motor looks like from the top. The silver button my finger is pointing to is for the roll bar lamps, but it was actually a blank button. In the 4 speed automatic equipped trucks that button is for the overdrive activation. If I was to put a 46rh trans, would I need a button to activate the od as well ?

Doesn't look like Magnum valve covers to me. Looks like old style LA small block covers. Same thing with the alternator. No serpentine belt.

How many valve cover bolts? 5 means its an older style LA motor.

Ignore the air intake Magnum insignia.

Yup. Old style exhaust manifolds. Definitely not a Magnum.

That is WEIRD..air pump, egr valve on the manifold, pcv valve on the driver side valve cover and the dual belt set up. That is definitely an la engine but you still have the magnum air box. As for the button you could probably mount it elsewhere in the vehicle or move that toggle switch but the od switch only deactivates the over drive so its not totally necessary unless you tow with it.

Yah I'm taking that back. Those are Magnum exhaust manifolds. And the air box is Magnum too.

The rest is LA.
