Here is what I've got on the Cummins... Works awesome and gets it up to temp in a short distance even with -25*F weather. As for using it with a gasser its a very good idea to get up to running temp quickly and get the MPG's up where they belong...

I'd argue on the Gen II's they'd actually work really well. I know mine didn't like to warm up when it was cold outside (with a good t-stat).

I never put forth the effort to make / use one.
