Pulled my dash to change the heater core and found this hanging down after I remounted the dash. It looks like it broke off. If it's the heater contorl I am going to kill myself...

Where does the cable go? Is it the hood release?

No, it's a very thin cable.

That sir, is the gear indicator cable for the dash.
For your sake, pray that the black bracket there is not broken, as that is a junkyard only part from what I have found. If it's not broken it should pop back into its slot on the drivers side of the steering column.

that's what it looks to be to me, one of at least a couple. unfortunately, it's easy to do, if you're trying to put one in by yourself for the first time. sorry. i, myself, did that once on a 79 300.

The heater controls are vacuum controlled on these trucks; no cables.
