Off road rams came with a 136 amp alternator, factory literature suggests a 160 amp was standard but I cannot find one listed.

Off road rams came with a 160 amp alternator, which could be an option.

Are you absolutely sure of that? The 2000 Offroad Rams list the alternators as being 136 amps.

2000 Dodge Ram Offroad package options: Off-road group LT275/ 70/17 tires; 136-amp alternator; 750-amp battery;transfer case and fuel skidplating; foglamps; 17x8-inch aluminum wheels; anti-spin differential; tow hooks; trailer tow group; travel conveniencegroup; auto day and night rearview mirror; illuminatedvisor vanity mirrors; overhead trip console with computer; rear sliding window; securityalarm with keyless entry; six-way power driver seat; AM/FM/ cassette/CD player with equalizer and six speakers; steering wheel- mounted audio controls; and bedliner

Looks like the 360 1st gen Durangos came with a 160 amp alternator and will bolt right up to a 360 in the Ram...I would assume it will also bolt up to a 318 too...

Yeah, I corrected my post...old factory literature suggests 160 amps but it was never offered as a production item probably due to costs. The idea being an enthusiast would want to add more auxillary lighting.
Some of the adds I work with are produced before an actual production run. You should read some of the old muscle car adds from the late 60s and early 70's!

BTW, I had been looking for that old road test to verify some info before you posted. Now its saved to my favorites. Thanks!

Te pullys are different I think...according to Advance the Cummins alternator has a 74mm pully and uses a V belt...yours has a 57mm pulley with a serpentine belt...other than that, they appear identical. clocking is the same and all.

I cant say yes or no to be totally honest...all I can tell with info on the OEM alternators on Advance's site, the only difference is the pulley diameter.

Theres a local company to me called tenney alternators, they build a nice ho alt for not much more than a oem. They normally build custom for spl stereo guys but I have talked to them and they are selling to diesel guys too, cause with lighting, stereo, and all the addons oem just isnt keeping up. You can find them facebook and they will ship anywhere. And powdercoat any color for additional cost

on tapatalk from my GS3....

cant see why not look on your alt if the numbers end with 7912 then it is the same as mine then it will fit what i saw at the junkyard the dodge ram Cherokee and Dakota alt all mount the same 3.9 5.2 5.9 gas are all the same so if the wiring fits and it looks like yours it should fit
