Can someone describe where the backup light switch is located on the a 45RE transmission? Is it part of the Park/Neutral switch? Picture and/or a wiring diagram would be very helpful.
Thanks

I suspect yours is like my 99.

And the answer is yes, the reverse/backup switch IS the park/neutral switch.

Do a quick google search for 96 dodge RAM 1500 automatic park neutral switch and you'll see plenty of images showing you what you're looking for.

Mine, has 3 wires going to it, and it plugs in right where the column shifting linkage meats the link arm at the transmission (driver side). Two of the wires had frayed and shorted together at the connector, causing me to blow backup lamp fuses. Some cleaner and a healthy amount of electrical tape, and I expect to be back in business.

You might make the same mistake I did and look too far down the transmission and mistake the 2 wire plug (speed sensor) as the reverse switch.

Thanks, in googling I see two switches with three connectors. It looks like the round plug is the early one and the more rectangular one like I have is newer. My trans is a hybrid of parts so going by year alone doesn't work. Can you confirm that this is a NSS with backup?
