Does anyone know much about axle seals? I have a 97 half ton and I changed the passenger side axle seal 4 times since last May and it still leaks. The vent is clean and I burrowed an axle puller from a shop in town so i know the seal goes in straight and that it goes in all the way. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Is it possible that there is something wrong with the axle itself, or something else up there? Or do i just suck it up and take it in to a shop?

It could have a burr from when the seal was originally installed and/or removed.

Everything looks real clean, no burrs or anything like that. Could the bearing be bad?

^^Like Frog says and Use double lip seals as I believe Dodge ones are not. Talk to your local Gear Shop or Napa Counter Guy. Good Luck!

Well no shop in my hometown would work on it, they said if my dad cant fix it they dont even want to try. Luckily i found a shop about 30 some miles away that will give it a try. So the moment of truth is tomorrow morning.

lol The 2nd gens were bad for that, and I don't think they make a double lipped seal for them either. You almost have to have a surgeon's hand when it comes to the install on those.

Thats a bummer. 3rd gen must have thicker axles? i just figured they would be the same rear end set-up/seals but then again I do know the studs are bigger on 3rd Gen. thanks for pointing that out Chris. fingers crossed for you Bob!
