Could be a bent pin in the connector or pushed out pin. I believe it has its own fuse also to protect the computer from an over power.

^^^^ +1

Double check all that. There shouldn't be any reason it won't work outside of a messed up wire or pin. The reader is a direct connection to the computer.

Normally the port won't go bad. Double check all the connections to the computer to make sure they are tight. Does the scantool fit in snug or is it super loose??

Possibly but I dont really think so, do you have access to a multi meter? See if the plug itself is recieveing power.

Usially it will either use the bolts on the case. But i think I may have seen some use a grounding strap. Just on the off chance is the battery grounded well?? Just a thought.

It sounds like a blown fuse of some sort. Not sure where or what to. I had read that it was on the radio circuit that communicates with the Scanner. All I can say at this point is to pull all the fuses and check them. I know that sounds redundant and mean but there is a missing connection somewhere. I'm gonna keep looking to see if I can find an answer to this.

I have heard stranger things happening. Electric gremlins are the hardest to track down. You could throw the old bulb back in and see what it does. I'm assuming the truck is running ok just has the CEL on.
