Most gear carriers have whats called a "break point" to them.

Dana 44 you can get thick cut gears or you get a new carrier that supports the new ratio and regular cut gears.

Rear corporate 9.25 gear carrier has no break point so just regular gears.

This comes down to budget and how you use your truck. Cheap would be to just get thick gears, if you want to say add a lsd in the front well there is no time better but his will add $500+ to the job.

One other opt is to get reg gears and a new empty open carrier for that ratio and put all your carrier parts in it. Empty carrier would be $150 or less.

When I had the 44 & the 9.25 they had Detroit lockers in them, I liked that set up but most would not. I want to tell you not to spend a penny on building those diff's but you want to stay with them so.

its really about parts being easily available its mostly a pavement rig with very occasional offroad.. has lsd in rear (factory) but i want to run 35s.. i know that i dont want that with stock gears so planning for future build. hopefully with a 5 speed too :) just trying to do some homework
