I bought the truck and the trans was fine, I replaced a bad electronic transmission sensor for the speedometer , changed the fluid and filter and now it's not shifting right, it's winds up to about 3000 Rpms and then when I come to a stop it won't down shift and the truck dies, the shifting is inconsistent and is just getting worse and worse. I put in oreillys generic ATF that they said was fine but on the bottle it says reccomened for Chevy and ford. Please help. It's got about 135000 miles

ONLY put ATF +4 in these transmissions...you need to get it to a shop and have the tranny flushed, new filter and put ATF +4 in it.

Hope that helps, I put in Oreillys ATF, but it was the +4. Good luck.

318 or 5.2 which ever you want
You can't just "change it now. You will only get about 1/3 of the fluid out of it as most of the fluid is in the torque convert and cooling line/radiator. You can try changing just what's in the pan and filter but I would HIGHLY suggest getting it flushed.

I think it's been said NEVER use anything but ATF+4 in these trucks. If flushing the transmission solves it, I'd be filing a claim with O'riellys corporate. Hopefully you havn't ruined your tranny. You'll need to get about all of that generic dexron out of there!

Lesson to the wise...never take Dodge advice from a person in a discount auto store who's never owned one.
