i tried an after market air filter while living in the country and didnt keep it maintained properly, i have full face ring wear, very little oil consumption and low oil pressure. it takes sometimes 20+ seconds to get oil pressure in the morning and when the ambient temp is 95+, it getting a weak idle, where parasitic load like turning the steering wheel while stopped will kill the engine.
is this issue in the gov on the inj pump due to low oil pressure?

Run a heavier weight oil? At least until you can save up for a rebuild if that's truly the issue.

Agreed, I just bought a 89 with a cone filter installed. First order of business is the find the OEM filter pieces and get it back in place.

Look into a BHAF mod. It will take some modification, but it's a great way to get plenty of flow and have the quality filtration of a paper filter.

Haha Greg, keep in mind I'm very new at this. What's the BHAF mod?

I found the pieces to put my air box back together and used a 93 air filter in the OEM box which has a snorkel that picks up cooler air behind the bumper. Made my own 3-1/2" connection pipe that's insulated.

Oil pressure sensors are notorious for not reading accurately or not reading at all. I would look at getting a new sensor and maybe installing as a test rig using a mechanical just to see what the pressure really looks like. Actually I saw some nice gauges at the Tractor Supply last week that would do the job nicely for cheap. I bought a small Summit 0-100 psi gauge and of course over paid for it to use as a test rig. Wish I'd seen the TS gauges first.... ugh
