24V Automatic Cummins?

i found a 2001 2500 4x4 Cummins with really low miles and really low price and looking to pick it up....but it has a 24V and is automatic....is this truck worth picking up?

being a 24V is a bad thing? I'd disagree.

Automatic transmissions have always scared me, that being said, I've only had one actually go out on me, and I was in Highschool... My guess is it was more MY fault than the transmissions!

Truck looks very clean. Check for rust in the common places (bottom of doors etc) and be prepared to argue price accordingly.

Also, look into the block casting number. The #53 blocks are known to crack. Supposedly 'fixable' just another thing worth looking at.

Same truck I have and a awesome truck ..

And the 53 block thing ... if it is you are due 500 bucks to repair . But I have never heard of any issues ... just a few people claim a crack .

Overall .. my truck is the same 24v auto .. granted I have a very very good updated / built trans .. this motor is rock solid .. go for it .. you wont be disappointed

And sell the rims and get 2nd gen ones ..Just my opinion

it it still has the stock lift pump you will have to deal with that. could also mean a new vp. how low are the miles? if the price is right you could afford to spend a little on it. check the codes.

awesome..Dave your truck was the one that inspired me to start looking at 2nd gen Cummins...and knowing that your running the same 24V auto makes me that much more excited...and yes i plan on removing everything that is on it and modding it back up my way...i like the way it sits now (height wise) but yes the wheels would be gone if i pick this up...the price is ridiculously low for the mileage which led me to believe that something may be wrong with it.....the owner (only has had one owner) is a single female that works most of her days on a cruise ship....she is asking $2400 with 46000 miles on it...seems very fishy i know but im definitely gonna check this out.

Hey Bluesmoke...

See if its got a fuel pressure gauge if so tell me the fuel pressure from idle to WOT @ highway speed.

Then another thing to do is check for error codes with a OBDII scanner this will tell you if there is anything wrong with the truck (bad VP44)

While test driving it check and see if there is excessive steering slop...

Or just key the trucks ignition 3 times do not start and it will read codes .. wright them down and report back .

At that price it is a no brainier ... even if it needs a new VP or lift pump .. hell thats nothing when you get a truck for that price IMO

it is little by little looking to be too good to be true...she says she wants to do this through ebay for her safety and mine...the thing is, she is a cross poster...the truck is actually in Ohio and she insists that it is all packed and ready for shipping...for the same 2400 bucks..i highly doubt this will be a legit sale but ill see what i can get outa her..hopefully its real cuz ill never find a sale like this again...but it just seems too good to be true

Yeah man that is for sure a scam. I've been down that road with people trying to scam you on there. Guy tried to do me the same way with eBay. I emailed him and said f*** off.

Yea I figured that after I got over the excitement of such a find that it was too good....but I guess it wasnt a total loss since I learned a few things from you guys about what to look for in a used diesel...i have my heart set on a 2nd gen diesel now.

Future reference for you Dave...

98.5 and 99 - Don't work for the key trick.

2000 - Most all work fine and report both PCM & ECM.

2001 - May or May not work. 01's are known to report only the PCM.

2002 - Report both PCM & ECM just fine.

Hence why I suggest just using a OBDII scan tool.

so i didnt write back to her last email figuring that it was fake..and she contacted me again this morning...all she asks is name and address to ship the truck to...she insists she will be using Ebay as a mediator although she doesnt have the truck actually listed on there...can someone do that? she says once she gets my name and address Ebay will send me the invoice to pay...she also says id have 5 days to check out the truck before ebay even releases funds...if i dont like it, money gets refunded and the truck gets picked back up....iv never had any spammer make this much sense, unless im missing something....what do you guys think
