hey guys, so last Wednesday i put a new intake horn on my truck, replaced intake grid heater top and bottom gaskets that were supplied with intake etc. anyway, on thurs and fri i started noticing a "different" sound when i started building boost, wasnt sure if it was normal with new intake horn or not, anyway, i did a lil road test tonight and fri. night, noticed i could only build 35 PSI and then it dropped, and my pyrometer spiked at 1600 deg (for 2 sec max) so i KNOW i have a boost leak now at this time, just clueless about where itd be at. i tightened clamp on intake horn side of upper boost tube very tight. only other thing i can think of is i have my intake heater ground strap as well as my edge ground wire on right front edge of intake horn between intake horn and grid heater, couldnt image thatd create a boost leak, but i have no clue where else i could put grid heater ground.

let me know what i need to do to look for where i could be getting a boost leak at please.

maybe take your boost line out and hook an air hose up to it so you could hear the air leak with the truck off, you would want a regulator though so your not running 100+ pound of air into the intake.

thats how i checked for my exhaust leaks, rigged an air hose up to the tailpipe and put a little air to it, worked great. dont see why it wouldnt work for checking for boost leaks, as long as u regulate the air to 30 or 40 pounds or whatever your turbo usually puts out.

I noticed tat fancy new intake manifold has a couple of NPT plugs in it, pull one of those out and get a schrader valve with male threads (like this McMaster-Carr)
Then you could just pump it up with a regular air chuck

if it were me id take the fitting out for your boost line and rig up something somehow so you can put air to the intake.

you may be able to take the fitting out and just stick your blow gun up to the hole and put air to it. if might be enough to hear the air leak anyway...

so i think i found the leak.......the leak was where i stuffed the grid heater ground and edge ground between the intake horn and the top of the grid heater. i moved both terminals and i can still feel a small air leak but i can hit approx 40 psi and no longer hear the "hoover vacuum" sound.

40 PSI on your stock turbo is not good ... you are asking for trouble bud

I think that I have found the boost leaks on my project car, but I am still only getting around 32 mpg. (2002 Jetta automatic trans). Could someone point me in the direction of a step by step boost leak test that I can do that is specific to this car. I have found some for other types of cars, but I am new to the tdi world. https://www.rx247.net/cialis.html

Well I definitly found my boost leak. Not sure if aFe sends **** gaskets with their products or if the gasket had a defect from factory but here's what came about. This happened almost immediatly after installing manifold. Day after heard the boost leak. Not sure if it was too much boost for gasket or diff issue. Replaced with quality Cummins gasket. Hopefully solved the problem.
