Ya.........

Brand new truck.
I put a lot of highway miles on it.
Got 21K on it...
Been in the shop for a full week now.
My advice to anyone looking to buy a new ram cummins...
Dont buy one unless you are willing to delete that system right out of the gate.

I'm a Ram guy.... but this piece of crap is absolutely driving me nuts.

Been to two dealers and nobody can figure out what is wrong with it.

DEF SYSTEM ERROR 150 miles until 5MPH max...

If anyone knows anything about this please contact me. I would like to tell the dealer anything I can find out about this truck because clearley they have no freaking clue.

I am suppose to leave to go to Nebraska on a deer hunt in the morning...its 3:48 and they still have not called me.

Man am I upset..

I had that issue to. It was a flash update they needed to do to resolve. Nothing was actually wrong with my truck. It was a 14 Laramie 6.7

My neighbor had a lot of issues with his too.

He just had it pulled off, went with pipe and a tip and a tuner. He's one happy camper now.

After the truck being to two dealerships. They finally got the problem figured out. It was a sensor in the DEF tank itself. Talk about frustrating....I never did get my truck ready to go on my hunt but at least the dealer gave me a loaner car Jeep Compass 2X4 and I was able to continue with my plans.

I cant says more about the customer care of Hayes Chrysler of Baldwin Georgia. They took my frustration very well and were very understanding. They are top notch folks down there and did everything they could to help me out. I cant blame them for my troubles nor can I blame their service department who literally had my truck in the shop for days trying to figure out the problem after having previously taken my truck to Lakeland Chrysler in Greenville Pennsylvania who not only had the wrong part number that they said needed fixed but told me they couldn't get the part until the end of the week (Which is extremely unacceptable)

All in all I am quite sick of the situation and how Chrysler has handled the Open problem of the DEF in their new trucks.

As far as PM'ing you my vin number... NA I guess not.

You people shouldn't need my vin number or anyone elses vin numbers. You people should be contacting the dealers to see the thousands of warranty claims that are brought to the surface by your faulty craftsmanship.

Just having to get online to vent gets my blood boiling about a problem that is AS BIG AS LIFE and all over the internet on 8000 web pages....

Shame on you Crystler for even producing something that IS GOING TO FAIL. Its not if, its when!

Makes me sick just to tell anyone that I am a dodge guy.

Missed the mark bad with the DEF systems and its a shame because the truck and engine are fantastic...

Who would have thought that the exhaust would be its shortcoming.

RamCares is simply trying to help you out, no need to call her or RAM out over it. You find in life you'll get more done with honey than you ever will with vinegar.

Spoken from someone who hasn't had any problems yet.

I bet you wont be so full of honey when your truck fails you because of a known issue.

Good day sir.

My 2017 developed a similar problem and displayed the DEF error message (miles remaining, etc.). The dealership tech found the problem within minutes... it was the DEF injector, which needed a good cleaning. That was several months ago and still good with no further problems. While at the shop, I had a chance to speak with (and learn from) the Service Advisor (who has a ton of previous experience with Diesel engine systems). He advised against "topping off" the DEF tank... better to let it get down to ~1/4 or even a bit less, then add a jug of fresh DEF. He added that this could have caused my problem. He also said that DEF from NAPA, Wal-Mart, etc. should be OK... the odds of getting outdated DEF are pretty slim.

Just got my 2015 back from the dealer. Same issue, DEF system service, 150 miles til limp, etc. Turns out the DEF injector had gone bad. 83k miles. new injector and $1200 later, problem solved.

$1200 to replace a DEF injector? The part is around $200. I but them off Ebay from a company that does RAM conversion where they remove them from new trucks. They usually sell for ~$60. Two bolts and takes about 10 minutes to replace it.
