Took the picture in the attachment when I first picked up my 2011 Ram. Can anyone tell me what that spilled stuff is and whether it was poured in there at the factory or the dealership? I've been guessing for months now so I thought I'd ask some folks that may have seen it a time or two.

Hmmm... Does it wipe up or wash off?

No it does not. It's some sort of chemical that bonds with the plastic. I tried various soaps and cleaners--that residue is still there exactly the same as when I picked it up at the lot. It kind of concerns me because the dealership doesn't have the best reputation ever. If it was put there at the Cummins or Dodge factory, I don't have any concerns. If it wasn't, then...? Not so sure.

I searched through all sorts of forums talking about break-in procedure so I'm kind of hoping that it's a zinc additive for the valve train. Nothing definitive as yet.

Many thanks quietpeen. I'll probably be around for quite a while. This is my second Dodge Ram and my first diesel powered one. They seem to keep getting better and better.

I think its more of a chemical wash for the engine bay... I think the dealer didn't rinse it down properly.

Idiot ^ LOL @Erik

But to the OP , I would take it back to the dealer and ask them , if its a big deal I would have them replace the cover .

And welcome to RF

Whatever it was, it's in the spent oil drum now. Just finished break-in at 100 hours, fitted a Wix 57620 filter, 11 quarts of Castrol Edge 5-50W, 24 ounces of IXL friction reducer and a fresh air filter. She runs now baby. Getting 15 mpg around town and you can feel the torque under the peddle when you want it. Pressure and temperature look good--all indications she's ready for launch.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

how are the 6.7s? welcome to RF!

Thank you singlecab. So far... Looks to be more torque than I can use, especially with the manual gear box. I kidded my brother that I could jerk the hitch right off his boat if I wanted. He didn't try me. During break-in I ran Parleys Canyon there in Utah, 70 MPH straight up, maybe half throttle in sixth gear. Anxious to put something behind her and see what kind of grunt it really has. The exhaust brake going downhill is pretty sweet too--definitely holds her back and keeps you off the brakes. A couple of fellows in another forum talking about the Cummins diesel said, "Once she's broke in, drive it like you stole it. Those big Cummins power-plants were built to work'm hard." I'm still wondering how she's going to do in the snow. Kind of afraid that much torque will end up putting me in the ditch.

As for the snow travel it takes some getting use too trust me... I'm up there with the same kind of torque your producing and it takes a very light foot to travel snow and ice...
