Well, my case is unique. A real close buddy of mine's parents have their own tool company ($$$$$$$$$$)... So with the help of her parents, she started her own hot shotting business with big rigs and duallies. Long story short I have her old 08 3500 at the shop that she's letting me tow with..and DPF delete lol. I don't have a commercial license, but from what I was told I wouldn't need one for the smaller things I was taking. It paid enough for me to comfortably build my trans, get a fuel pump, and other things this summer :)

Shoot I'll trade you right now, but I just have the itch to just buy a new truck. Don't get me wrong I love the cummins you can pull anything you'll every need to and never have to worry about. Just like others have said you still get great mpg even while your towing.
If you really want one you can't go wrong with getting one I'm sure you'll be more then happy with it.

10 quarts for an oil change, if it's brand new all of that dpf crud, having to warm it up, it you live in the northland having to plug it in.

Actually tho, my Hemi Challenger and my 2010 1500 Hemi took 7 qts.

12 quarts of 15w40 (either use rotella or valviline premium blue) is usually $15-18 a gallon x3 and $13-$15 for a Donaldson filter typically

You might as well take it to a dealer I you try buying the oil by the quart
12x$7
It'd be worth the $86 for the dealer to do it (be weary of their filters)

Aren't new hemis intervals 5k or 7500 miles now?

LOL - plus the outrageous time it takes at a dealership to do anything.

Not sure about the Hemi intervals. I've been a fan of the 6K change for a number of years - the oil companies have done a wonderful job of tapping into the public's nervous system with insistence of 3K changes.

Meantime, my oil change due light came on in my truck at 2000 miles. ???

I'd take off all the decals, lift, tires, and drop the mother f***** to the ground. With that mod list, it's gotta be in the 600-800HP range.

I'm sure this has been asked numerous times but I enjoy opinions. I've a got 2012 ram that does everything I need but I keep looking at diesels. Something about them keeps attracting me. I know I'd lose my butt on trading but I'm pretty sure one day I'll have me a cummins. Thinking I should stop the mods and just hold off until I get that great cummins motor. Opinions ?

Here is a little backstory for me. Before I bought the ram, I was contemplating buying a Hummer H1. For around $50K I could get a pretty nice 2000 or so model year truck and I know my way around Hummers pretty well. Now nobody in this world "needs" an H1, there are a nice to have, but that's about it. Then I just sat and thought about it a bit more and the thought of buying an almost 12 year old truck for $50K just didn't sit well with me no matter what the specs. The truck would end up sitting and not getting driven and what I really wanted was something I could drive.

I stumbled across the ram by accident. In fact, I have always liked ram trucks because I felt that from the outside they are the most stylish looking. The only experience I had was looking from the outside on the road, never sitting in one.

In the end, could I have gotten by with a Ram 1500 longhorn with a Hemi? Sure, but why I would want to trade in a vehicle that was worth just as much as the vehicle I was buying. If I'm trading in why not trade up? It doesn't matter to me if the most the truck hauls is firewood or christmas presents :). It took the place of another need that I questioned myself on before I made the buy. I could have made the same argument about buying my first Hummer 7 years ago. It wasn't necessary but it sure was fun to drive :). That's how I feel about the ram. It's my toy and I'm playing with it now lol.
