I currently own a 04 Hemi QC. I'm looking to buy a diesel in the next few months. Based on the little research I've done so far as well as my budget (+/- $20K), I'm looking at getting a 5.9. I know more about gas trucks than diesels so any advice as far as what years to look at/avoid would be much appreciated.

Thanks for input guys and gals

Power stroke... How dare you! Advice? Just do it! :waytogo:

Really not much to say. Stay under 100k miles used, so you can ensure the maintenance has/is being performed at critical intervals.

Stay away from huge massive builds, as they aren't always the most reliable, especially if they we're beaten to hell.

That being said, you should've able to find a nice one, average miles, slight to semi modded for a great price.

And you'll absolutely love it, and never let go of it!

Also, any well formed arguments that I can use to convince my wife would be much appreciated. Yeah I found an 04, not yet sure if its the 600 or not, with 87K on it, 4" turbo back, bulldog, with an intake. Clean looking rig for 24K

Besides the increase in hp and torque are the trucks built in the second half of '04 better/worse or no different than the early half?

I want to say 03-04s had a 3.5" exhaust
Basically the same other then that
They get better fuel mileage

An upgraded exhaust is never a bad thing either!

Sounds like you may have found your gem.

As for help convincing your wife... There are those of us that just do what they want because they are the man of the house. I am not one of those guys so I resort to continually bringing it up until she says "Just get it if we can afford it". :emotions133: LOL!!!

Best of luck!
