Hey guys newbie here.

Don't yet have a Ram just yet but starting to search pretty heavy for one, plans are to buy one within the next couple of months.

My question is, what is the best truck year to get currently prefer something 2008 or up. I know most every generation will have its flaw etc, but what is the best one right now. I am personally liking the 14's. I am wanting one with the 6.7 Cummins motor don't want the hemi.

Thanks for all the advice in advance.

Depends on what all your looking to do with it
Personally I'd say my 07 5.9 is the best year but thats just cause it fits exactly what I was looking for

If your wanting strictly a 6.7 Cummins, which started in the 07.5 models, and of course to current models. If you can withstand the emissions, going strictly for looks and comfort I would go with the 14 model. Ram upgraded to a 5 link independent rear suspension. The ride in these newer trucks are amazing, very comfortable.

Like they said, it's depends on what you plan to do with it and if you plan to modify it. What are your plans for it?

Sorry I did leave that out its going to be a work truck, but it will also be pulling my travel trailer its 31ft 7,500-8,000 fully loaded.

I thought diesels didn't have an emissions test, I know my dad had a 97 3500 and we never had an emissions test but again I know times have changed.

The main thing is I want something reliable and to always count on it, I've always dreamed of having a Cummins so its part of why I want it.

In the state of Texas only a safety inspection is required for all diesels, regardless of year and make. Any Cummins will pull what you are requiring, just depends on your taste.

Depends on where you are
Many states do not have emissions inspections on diesels but there are federal regulations manifacturers have to meet to produce new diesel vehicles (well any vehicle really)

Even though it may not be required to pass emissions, if a vehicle comes with some sort of exhaust system then it should be in place in almost all saftey inspections. It is also a felony to tamper with emmisions equipment in a vehicle

Okay I would like to have something newer that's for sure. With no emissions I'll just tear it all off. I've looked at the 14's and really like there looks.

Anyone have a megacab and if its worth the extra cash for it?

Your best bet would be to go with an 03 to 07 3rd gen Cummins, which is emissions free no Soot cooker(dpf), and no egr/cooler.

It's not as simple as just tearing off a catalytic converter.
Your looking at $2000+ for an off road exhaust and off road tuning to keep the truck running without emmisions on a 6.7 and no longer having a power train warranty

I didn't physically mean tear it off, I would have it done correctly.

Well that $2k changes things, let me ask this then. Would it be possible to change basic items and it still run correctly, like a cold air intake, ecu chip, muffler, and a programmer?

For the13 and 14 models they do have tuners and down-loaders, like Bullydog, and TS Performance. But with all emissions intact, if you remove the emissions truck it will go into limp mode, will not run correctly. NO aftermarket company has a dpf removal tuner at this point.

So if I could safely put a bulldog I'd be fine as long as I don't go removing emissions?

There are EFI live deleted 13-15s out there
They use a Bullydog tuner to unlock the PCM
It will be available to the public in the next few days
Companies like RSD and Top Gun Diesel are already taking orders

Wow, it looks like it's going to happen! It's been on the back burner way to long, so basically aroound 2,000, and additional 299.00 for the transmission tune.

Well I think what I may end up doing is just do those minor upgrades and save up to do the full on delete kit.

Now what are some of the know issues of the 6.7, i've heard 2 fellow co workers having some gas tank issues. But I do know there can be a good batch and bad batch.

Something about depth? He said he was having an issue with the gas light coming on but it being full, said he just got the truck back after being in the shop for 3 weeks. 1 truck is a 12 other 13, both had the same issues.
