Hey guys,
Kinda new to the forum and all and I had a question.

How much can a 2008 2500 cummins auto tow with a gooseneck trailer?
What about a 3500 (both single and dully)?

What all could be done to either to increase towing?

Thanks in advance!

Honesty need more info then that.
Are you looking for a quad cab, reg cab, mega cab? Gearing plays a big role
Guessing a ****** but hemi were options as well?
It'd be easier for you to let us know what your trying to haul.

Also there is nothing you can do to legally do to change the towing capacity. You can make the truck handle the weight better but I will never recommend anybody pull over the "properly equipped" rating of their truck because of the dangers involved with doing so

oops, my b. Sorry, thought I included more details.

They would all be Mega Cab configs. I'm not sure on the gearing (2500 at least. might go look at one today. CL Listing says it has "Tow Package" Whatever that means?...)
Also all Cummins engines. I'd be mostly hauling a cattle trailer (20', 4000# empty, dual axles, single tire on each (4total) and sometimes a flat bed (27', 6500# empty. 2 axles, dual tires on each.(8total).

What all could be done to make it handle the load better?

Also, (sorry for all the questions) what is the difference between the 2500 and3500? all the specs look the same, except towing capacity which means a beefier suspension right?

GVWR is 9,000 lbs for a 2500, 10,100 lbs for a 3500 and 10,500 for a DRW
Your towing capacity will be lower then above if the truck is 4x4
There is a dodge site that lists all these weights but I can't navigate it from my phone, maybe someone can post the link for you or I will next time in on the computer

IMO megacabs aren't the best for towing, the rating is the same but the payload is lower because of the extra cab weight and the way the weight is loaded over the axle
You'll be fine with a 3/4 ton hauling that cattle trailer unless you plan to fill it to capacity often then you should go with a one ton

That flat deck doesn't leave you much weight for equipment, it sounds like overkill for a 3/4 ton or a one ton and shoul be pulled with atleast a class 8 truck or even a semi lol

Yea, it is a big flat bed. I want a 3500, and it would be 4x4. How can you tell what gear ratio the truck has
? And what cab be done to help it handle the load better?
The reason I want a mega cab is because I often haul people and want them to be able to ride more comfortable in the back seat.

Easiest way, there should be a sticker in the glove box that will tell you the type of axle and the gear ration inside of the glove box
If your only occasionally towing, go with 3:73s, even 3:42s maybe

There are several different types of air bags that will help and there are also aftermarket bump stops (timbrens) that do a similar job

Yea, it is only occasional towing. And the majority of that is with the cattle trailer. There would be a few times (maybe once every other Month. If that) that i would haul with the flatbed. If I do haul with the flay ved it wold be a car or truck that broke down, four wheelers, some hay.

The only difference between a 3/4 and 1 ton are an added overleaf spring in the rear I believe as well.

That's what i thought usmc. Which really, imo, can be beefed up. (My brother did on his '01 3500)

It is just a different spring pack
You can add a helper leaf to help handle the weight but I would recomend air bags or timbrens so you dont affect the ride all the time

Also adding an extra leaf wont make your tow rating change, it is what is from the factory and there is no way to legally change it

Airbags are definitely the answer, I'd love to throw some on mine sometime. I mean, I have never been able to tow/haul enough to actually need them, but it would be nice to know they are there when I would
