So, I was reading an introduction and someone stated that we were trailing the rest of the big 3 as far as diesel performance goes... that didn't sit well with me at all, so I figured I'd start this thread, and well, see where it goes...

..............................Torque..............................
..........06......07......08......09......10......11......12
Dodge: 610....650....650....650.....650.....800....800 <<1,800rpm
Ford:...570....570.....650...650.....660.....735.....735 <<3,000rpm
Chev:...650....650....650....660....660.....765.....765 <<1,600rpm

..............................HP....................................
............06......07......08......09......10......11......12
Dodge: .305....350.....350....350....350.....350.....350
Ford:....325....325....350.....350.....350.....390....390
Chev:...360....360.....365.....365....365....365.....397

I think its typically agreeable that torque is king for diesels, and on top of that low rpm torque is where its at. (Ford? WTF!) I don't see how either of our competitors are surpassing Cummins/Ram performance, or even for that matter keeping up.

Thoughts?

Simple answer...

Why worry about the specs and who can pull what over some grade the fastest... There is one spec that is never listed is how many times a Dodge can pull a load over a grade without a failure.

Being I've seen several MILLION MILE vehicles now that are Cummins Engines I'm not going to worry about some little spec numbers. Being my truck right now puts out more HP/TQ (381/831 Dyno'ed 2007) that any of the new truck trucks.

One day at the tire shop a GM boy was trying to tell me how fast the Duracrap is and I was like listen man I don't care. Nothing out pulls a Cummins and that truck is ugly so I don't care. I had my wifes Journey getting rotation and the guy was just annoying me with his Chevy hat. I really don't care what people tell me my truck although not a CTD is great and durable. I like the Hemi a lot and of I had to choose between the pentastar or a duramax I would still take the Dodge because that is who I am.

So I agree HP is great when racing but torque is where the work is done and why the Cumins is so boss.

You can build anything to last longer, pull harder, have more power
It's about what you like you anymore with how close the market is
I just nod my head at people when they tell me stuff anymore
While I'm far from knowing everything about them I know alot and I know what I like, people are gonna change it in 15 minutes

While I think the Cummins is king simply from a durability standpoint, the Duramax is nothing to sneeze at. They had their share of problems for the first several years, but I can name quite a few Cummins problems over the years too. Powerstrokes are just...well...sad. Although I hear the new Fords are much better.

In the end, its just a matter of what you like. If I was buying a new diesel I would have a hella hard time deciding between Dodge and Chevy. Probably sway towards Dodge for the solid front axle and the fact that I love the new body style.
