When buying a cummins 12v or 24v?

Ok I am really REALLY getting the itch to buy a cummins. Especially now that the 2nd and 3rd gens are coming down in price. So I know a little bit about the changes and what to look for in a 12v or a 24v. I have been seeing lots and lots of 12v for sale. But if the 12v is so bullet proof why get rid of them? Is there really a better one than the other? I found a really nice 98 12v that I am really tempted to get. But I want to know what the pro to having a 12v over a 24v. What would you buy?

Thoughts opinions?

Personally I say the 24V.

The engine is totally bullet proof too just there is electronics involved which is great because it make diagnostic so much easier than guessin' the 12V's. Then the 12V p7100 pump might be bullet proof but doesn't have any dynamic timing like VE or VP44 pumps. So range of performance is all based on your timing settings.Then tuning a 24V is much easier just plug and play. Where with the P7100 there is constant toolbox work, changing plates, adjusting this and that. 24V change tunes and power at the press of a button without even lifting a wrench. At least when something goes wrong on a 24V the computers (ECM/PCM) will tell you.

VP44 have had a bad name for so long because of people that are not educated properly. There is only 3 things that will kill a VP44.
1. Fuel pressure (14-20 PSI is optimal)
2. Fuel Lubricity (<450 HFRR Is required by Bosch standards)
3. Fuel Filters (2-3 microns is optimal)

If you cover those 3 thing you VP44 is just as bullet proof as a P7100. I should know I'm heading for 200K miles with my VP44.
